If you are an existing DSA ADI (C) and wish to undertake further qualification, or simply refresh your skills then we can help. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) can be either formal or information based on individual need. It is a personal responsibility to keep up-to-date and seek to improve your own knowledge and expertise as well as maximising your own potential and credibility within the profession.

It is absolutely critical that ADIs maintain their own driving to a high standard, otherwise their teaching standards with novice drivers will be affected.

Cardington Special Driving Test

Only qualified Driving Instructors are eligible to undertake this test of driving ability. It is conducted at the DSA training establishment close to the village of Cardington in Bedfordshire, and at other regional centres. A very high standard of driving is expected.

A DSA staff instructor will conduct the test. You will drive for 90 minutes around a varied route.

Only three (3) minor driving faults are allowed, but not the same faults repeated, i.e. there must not be any patterns of error.

ADIs who pass this examination are recognised by the DSA as being amongst the most professional in the industry.

The amount of training required to take this test is determined by individual needs. The first session will involve an assessment and analysis of your existing driving technique against the required standard and advice as to whether or not any further training is required.

Training is conducted in 2 hour blocks.
